LEXINGTON H-L CUTTING STAFF, GREAT

BY RANDY WALTERS
The Lexington Herald Leader announced they would be cutting staff, again. Kentucky must be doing something right to cause that liberal, California owned rag to be having trouble. However, as is the case in most bureaucracies they will keep the sludge and cut the workers.
The paper has such greats as Tom Eblen and John Cheves on staff who are so far to the left it’s sickening. Eblen came to Hazard and spoke out against surface mining at a civic function, and probably thought his greatness deserved applause. Was he surprised when people walked out?
John Cheves is so useless that if I were a left winger in charge at the H-L, I would fire him for being so damned obvious. His coverage of the Republican Primary debate on KET was so Williams leaning it was pathetic.
The H-L rag doesn’t have to admit they are looking out for Beshear, their reporters have done that for them. They want David Williams to win the primary because they know he cannot beat Beshear in the general election. Sure, they’ve written some semi negative stories about Richie Farmer, but they have written nothing that can’t be fixed with a little PR, and their last feature on him was the fixer.
They’ve gone as far as to help Williams address the “Bully from Burkesville” label, and they got that smoothed out as if David Williams is just a poor misunderstood do-gooder with a heart of gold.
What they omitted was the problems facing Kentucky as a result of David Williams, Steve Beshear, and Greg Stumbo, and their ceaseless efforts to uphold Kentucky’s “ politics as usual at any cost” status. The bad thing about their omissions is that they call it “Journalism.”
At this point I feel it necessary to offer a suggestion to these liberal hacks. Why not do investigative reports on Kentucky’s failing education system, its impending financial melt-down, its failure to attract business from a tax standpoint, and its rating as the worst managed state in the nation?
After doing this exhaustive research work they might also want to mention who has been in charge and whose policies and actions have brought Kentucky to such levels of excellence. It would be a refreshing change to see the H-L act like a news outlet, but I doubt that ever happening.
In Phil Moffett we have a candidate running for governor who offers realistic solutions to the problems facing Kentucky, but his lack of “Politics as usual one liners” is unattractive to the folks at the H-L. They feel comfortable with David Williams ads proclaiming “Kentucky needs leadership now,” and not doing cartoons about it.
David Williams has been leadership in Kentucky for so long that he qualifies for a place in the history books, now. His ads would make an outsider think he’s the new kid on the block when, in fact, he’s one of the architects of our miserable status.
Will the H-L call his hand on such nonsense? When pigs fly they might, but even then I would have to see it prior to believing it. It’s as if they think we’re all the victims of Kentucky’s failed education system and can’t remember who has been at the helm for Kentucky’s “Titanic” experience.
The attitude towards Kentuckians as exemplified by the H-L is hurtful. Many folks in eastern Kentucky have given up on it and no longer waste their time reading it. Many folks in central Kentucky have become so put out with it as to cause them to stop reading it.
Could one assume there’s a pattern here? Could one assume there’s a pattern nationwide concerning the so called, “Journalists?” Could that be part of the reason circulation is down to the point of lay-offs at many of the nation’s news papers? Whatever the reason it will be better for Kentucky when the H-L shuts their doors. After all, who needs them when you can better investigative reporting from the writings on the walls of most pubic toilets?
